HBCU ADVANCE
Conservation Legacy is a national nonprofit committed to engaging future leaders who protect, restore, and enhance our nation’s lands through community-based service.
We provide internship and crew-based opportunities and leadership positions in conservation, historic preservation, climate mitigation, natural resource management, and more. These positions are designed to provide pathways to careers in the above fields and beyond. Through partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Conservation Legacy is committed to matching students of HBCUs to opportunities across the United States.

Positions are paid and fit the interests of applicants. These positions are held in partnership with non-profit, local, city, tribal, and federal organizations and agencies.
Individual Placements
- Program models include AmeriCorps VISTA, Historic Preservation Training Center, Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance Program, Scientists in the Parks, Community Volunteer Ambassadors, WaterCorps and local individual placements.
- Project types include restoration, invasive species management, historic preservation, mining reclamation, maintenance, education and interpretation, volunteer engagement, capacity building, communications, climate change mitigation and more.
Crew-Based Placements
- Program models include adult and youth field crews, local crews, career placement crews, affinity crews, Veterans Fire Corps crews, disaster relief and response crews and more.
- Project work includes trail work, fencing, fire fuels reduction, restoration, historic preservation, invasive species management, sustainable forestry, inventorying and monitoring, technical rigging projects, climate change mitigation and more.
