    November 18th, 2024 | TAMPA, Fla. — Over the weekend, AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith visited Tampa, Sarasota, and other parts of Florida’s Gulf Coast, where AmeriCorps members are deployed in response to the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Smith met with AmeriCorps members, AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams and community members who were impacted by the storms and received services from AmeriCorps.

    Great Smoky Mountains National Park completes three-year restoration of Ramsey Cascades Trail

    Gatlinburg, TN – November 18, 2024 | In collaboration with Friends of the Smokies, the National Park Service (NPS) has a completed a three-year restoration of the Ramsey Cascades Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Located in the Greenbrier area, this popular trail ascends through beautiful hardwood forests to the 105-foot Ramsey Cascades, the tallest waterfall in the park. The trail is now open seven days a week following an extensive reconstruction and rehabilitation.

    AmeriCorps Supports Disaster Recovery in North Carolina, Continues to Support States Impacted by Hurricane Helene

    October 9th, 2024 | Raleigh, N.C. — “Conservation Corps NC is committed to developing the next generation of conservation leaders for North Carolina, and our partnership with AmeriCorps is critical to that mission,” said Jessie Birckhead, Executive Director of Conservation Corps North Carolina. “Each year over 85 AmeriCorps members serve with CCNC helping protect and conserve our state’s incredible natural resources. We are committed to helping our community recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. In the coming weeks and months, our staff and members will support recovery efforts and help impacted communities begin to rebuild.”

    Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps joins USGS for Grand Canyon Research Expedition

    Ancestral Lands

    August 16, 2024 - The 2024 Partners trip, led by trip leader Jen Lair, boat operator John Napier, and assistants Nichole Sanchez and Stephen Yazzie, served two ALCC crews and based out of Arizona and New Mexico and one all-Indigenous Southwest Conservation Corps Crew based out of Colorado. The youth and young adults on this trip belonged to a diversity of Tribes in the Southwest and beyond. The group included many Navajo and Hopi crewmembers, as well as crewmembers from Lakota, Muscogee Creek, Pyramid Lake Paiute, and White Mountain Apache Tribes.

    Summer internship program gets city kids hands-on with the great outdoors

    Aug. 7, 2024 | Charlottesville, VA - On the last Monday in July, in the fields behind the Fifth Street Starbucks, a crew of sweaty high school kids is taking a mid-morning break, swigging energy water and snarfing down bags of chips (after working outside all morning, they need the salt). Their blue T-shirts say “Trailblazers.” And that’s what they are—pioneers in a pilot program to get local youth acquainted with the outdoors and maybe introduce them to careers in conservation. An added bonus: These kids are earning a paycheck while providing much-needed maintenance on the popular Rivanna Trail encircling Charlottesville.
